Is the Founder and current serving Executive Director of MAYEIN. She is a Lawyer with a Bachelor of Law degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University and an MA in Cultural and Media Studies from the University of Ibadan, she has over 8 years professional experience spanning development, legal practice, media and non-profit management. Through further professional development and capacity building she holds a certificate in “Communications for Development” from the Commonwealth virtual university as well as a certificate in “Citizen Journalism and New Media” from the Aileen Getty school of Journalism in Israel. She equally holds a certificate in “Civic and Non-Profit leadership” from the School of Public Service and Community Solutions, Arizona State University. Since 2011, Edem has been involved in youth civic engagement education and technical consultations for youth political inclusion, through her organisation MAYEIN. Because of her work in developing youth civic education strategies, Edem has served as technical consultant on several occasions to the African Governance Architecture (AGA) Secretariat, of the African Union Commission on how to enhance youth involvement in electoral Processes. She also provides technical review consultations on Gender strategy for the Women Gender and Development Division of the African Union Commission. Edem is a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow.
Lauretta Eloho Malaka
Is the Administration and Finance Officer of MAYEIN. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and is a youth enthusiast and intrapreneur. Prior to her role in MAYEIN she worked as the Finance Associate, at Gilflink Technical (Nig.) Ltd., where she managed the company’s accounts payable, handled procurement processes, prepared requisitions and purchase orders and managed vendor applications as well as supported the company accountants in managing the company’s payroll process. She has also worked as the social media manager at McHenry’s Aquaculture where she was responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies for the business’ social media site. This motivated her interest in business especially SMEs. Outside of work, she volunteers at SOZO Network as the Principal of its SAFE Academy, an inclusive and intensive ten-week training to prepare teenagers for life, career and leadership. She hopes to help jumpstart entrepreneurs from small and medium businesses to large pan African corporations.
Is the Head of Programmes at MAYEIN. She holds a B.A (Second Class Upper) in Archaeology from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, and has just concluded her national youth service (NYSC) at Government Girls Arabic Secondary School, Takai, Kano State where she worked for over a year as a civic education teacher, educating young girls on the importance of civic involvement/engagement. She has 2 years of professional work experience and has worked at Mentoring Assistance for Youth and Entrepreneurial Initiative (MAYEIN) as a Project officer on the Girls Connect Phase 2 Project, in which she provided Hausa Language Skills on the project and assisted with the technical trainings and support of role models. Rachael also served as a Project Officer during the Participatory Budgeting (phase 1) Project in 2017. She has attended several capacity workshops and trainings including the ‘Top 12 Youth Works State Training in Gombe State – a 2 days Intensive training for youth leaders organised by the British Council Nigeria; and a 2-days in-house training on Gender Concepts and Socio-Cultural Norms organised by MAYEIN for its staff and volunteers. Rachael is passionate about civic engagement, community development, gender equality, and girl child education.
Anthony currently volunteers as the program coordinator for the MAYEIN Book Club. He also analyzes the evaluation feedbacks of our outdoor programmes and develops reports. He is very passionate about the empowerment of youths and the development of teenagers to create 21st century competencies. His core competencies are in data analysis, program management and strategy implementation.
Anthony holds a Bachelors’ degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His undergraduate thesis focused on survival strategies and academic performance of indigent students. During his NYSC service year, he worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Epe Local Government helping in its 2017 budget development.
Taiwo is a volunteer managing the Partnerships & Fund raising Desk at MAYEIN. Her technical competencies include: creative content creation, event organization and project management. She is currently a Unilever Campus Ambassador.
Taiwo is a final year Law student at the University of Ibadan. She is passionate about being a positive impact and role model to other young people.
Abass Oluwafemi Raimi
Abass volunteers as a a programme officer in MAYEIN and assists with the running of the Organisation’s Mobile Library program for teenagers, in underserved communities. He is highly driven and passionate about service to humanity and community development. He is a keen lover of governance and has served in different capacities as a student leader through which he has developed competence in communications (written and oral), working in a team settings and teaching.
Abass is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Ibadan. During his NYSC, he taught Religious and National Values as a subject to junior secondary school students. He aspires to be a leading researcher, writer and essayist of three critical values of governance- Transparency, Accountability and Merit.
